RYRYR DE ANARTS RYRYR DE ANARTS RYRYR DE ANARTS RYRYR

Good morning/evening it is Sunday the 3rd of September 2006

and here is ANARTS with our weekly RTTY broadcast bringing

you - cast 1412.

We transmit on 40 metres 7042 each Sunday morning at 0030

UTC and 80 metres 3542 each Sunday evening at 0930 UTC.

Selected items from this cast are also transmitted by

the Westlakes Amateur Radio Club. Time of transmission is

1930 local time on Tuesdays and the frequency is 146.775MHZ.

ANARTS now has a web site at www.anarts.com.au

where information about the society can be found, as well as

the weekly broadcast texts.

Views expressed in this news bulletin are not necessarily

those of the Broadcast Officer, the Relay Officers, or of

the Society.

Items in this broadcast include

Propagation of Radio Waves.

Ionospheric Irregularities.

2. Sporadic E.

Sporadic E layer conditions cause the E layer to refract radio waves above the normal E layer MUF and at times even well above the F2 layer MUF.

The nature and cause of the Sporadic E phenomena is not as yet understood,

although it is believed in some quarters to be caused by Meteors.

During the daytime in the lower latitudes, Sporadic E conditions usually bring about a weak and partial refraction of all frequencies up to 10-15 Mhz, with the remainder of the energy of the wave being refracted from the higher layers. At higher latitudes, Sporadic E generally results in almost total refraction of all sky wave signals by the E layer, this condition being noticeable during both day and night.

Not only does Sporadic E affect HF transmissions, but on occasions causes VHF contacts over considerable distances on frequencies up to about 60 Mhz.

Next week Sudden Ionospheric Storms (SID's).

As you know, I shall be leaving Australia in October for at least a year.

If you are able to do one of the following, ANARTS is looking for you.

1. We need a Relay Officer to transmit ANARTS RTTY Broadcast on Sunday mornings. The cast is approximately 30 to 40 mins in duration. The cast would be sent to you on Saturdays by Email. If you are at all interested please contact either Pat VK2JPA or myself VK2CTD at the addresses shown at the end of this broadcast.

2. We will also need a Contest Manager to oversee ANARTS WW RTTY Contest, which is very popular with overseas stations. This year approximately 400 entries were received by Email, and probably 1500 Amateurs around the World took part. You do not need to do any Transmitting or Receiving.

The logs are converted into ANARTS format by a converter program and then can be put through a checking program that checks the log and provides the Manager with several pieces of information, including the number of QSO's, Points, Multiples, Continents worked and the Grand Total Points scored by each Contester, plus much, much more. The Contest is held each year in June. If you would like to try this task, you will be provided with the programs involved and some tuition.

If you are at all interested in RTTY and its related digital modes, you will really enjoy taking part in either of these two activities, and for the Contest Managers job you do not need to be in Sydney, anywhere in Australia will be fine as contact can be via Emails.

Hope to hear from you
