A.N.A.R.T.S. News Bulletin 1437 for 25th of March 2007
CubeSat launch scheduled: Four CubeSats operating on Amateur Radio
frequencies will be among seven CubeSats set to head into space on a Dnepr
launcher Tuesday, March 27, from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.
CubeSats carrying Amateur Radio payloads are CalPoly's PolySats CP3 and CP4,
which will transmit 1200 bps FM AFSK (AX.25) on 436.845 MHz and 437.325 MHz,
respectively, under an FCC Part 5 experimental license; University of
Louisiana's CAPE-1, which will transmit 9600 bps FM FSK (AX.25) and CW
telemetry during opposite 30-second intervals on 435.245 MHz using the call
sign K5USL (forward telemetry reports via e-mail <jd.harrist@gmail.com>;),
and the Universidad Sergio Arboleda's Libertad-1, which will transmit 1200
bps FM AFSK (AX.25) on 437.405 MHz. CubeSat separation is scheduled to occur
March 27 at 0702 UTC with first acquisition of signal over South Africa at
0708 UTC.

Solar flare activity was very low all week.
Geomagnetic activity observed for the Australian Region was quiet to unsettled on 16th and 17th; and quiet on other days.
Southern Australian Ionospheric F2 critical frequencies were near predicted on 16th, 17th, 19th and 22nd; mostly near predicted on 20th and 21st; and near predicted with occasional depressions to 25 per cent on 18th.
Forecast for 23rd to 29th March
Solar activity should be very low.
Geomagnetic activity should see mostly quiet to unsettled conditions. Isolated active periods are possible on 24th and 25th.
Frequencies should be mostly near predicted monthly values. Minor to mild depressions are possible at high latitudes on 24th and 25th.

6Y, JAMAICA
Frank, K3TRM, will be vacationing in Lucea, (NA-097, also counts for WLOTA
LH-0214) between March 31st to April 9th. He is expected to be active as
K3TRM/6Y5 and be active on 80-10 meters, SSB, RTTY, PSK31 and possibly some CW.
He has a request to the Jamaican Spectrum Management Authority for special
permission to operate on 60 meters. 60m is not currently authorized for Amateur

AF-004. Wilko, PA3BWK, will be active as EA8/PA3BWK from the Island of Lanzarote
(DIE S-007, Punta Pechiguera lighthouse FEA D-2782, WLOTA LH-0099, WW Loc.
IL38BU), June 10-16th. Activity will be on 40-10 meters, mainly CW, at 10 kHz up

AS-117. Kenji, JA4GXS, will be active as JA4GXS/4 from Ohzu Island (JIIA
AS-117-110), JA4 Yamaguchi Prefecture, between now and March 20th. Activity will

EU-146. Operators Fons/ON4AWT and Win/ON8VD will be active as PA/homecall from
Schouwen Duiveland, April 8-13th. Activity will be on all HF bands, CW, SSB and
the Digital modes. There will also be activity on VHF SSB. QSL via his home
callsign; the bureau is preferred.
NA-231. Operators Cezar/VE3LYC and Ken/G3OCA will attempt to activate for the
first time NA-231P (East Pen Island, VY0), between July 20-22nd. Ken is a well
experienced island activator, but this will be Cezar's first. East Pen Island is
the only island approved for this IOTA group and the breeding place of polar
bears, which brings interesting challenges to the team. They are prepared to
have two stations on the air operating CW and SSB from 40-10 meters. QSL via
VE3LYC, either direct or by the bureau (G/GI/GM/GW stations can QSL via G3OCA).
SA-098. Simon, IZ7ATN, is expected to be active this week as OA6/IZ7ATN/p from
Blanca Island in the Arequipa/Moquegua/Tacna Department Group (new one) around
March 20-22nd. He will concentrate on 20 and 17 meters SSB, plus 15 and 10
meters if the bands are open and 40 meters if he can put up a decent antenna.

J75, DOMINICA (Update)
The W2RZS Amateur Radio Club will be returning to Dominica for the 2007 CQ WW
WPX SSB Contest (March 24-25th), and they will be using their J75RZ callsign.
This will be their third trip to J7-land. They expect to arrive on March 21st
and stay for 6 days. Their "home" will be the Harmony Villa which boasts a 1700
foot elevation and is situated in the rain forest. Due to work schedules, there
will be only two operators this trip; Bob/WB2NVR (J79RS) and Mike/WA2VQW
(J79VQ). They will be active before and after the contest on 160-6 meters,
CW/SSB/RTTY, including the WARC bands, and possibly 60 meters. They will also be
concentrating on the lower bands. All QSLs for J75RZ should be sent to W2RZS via
direct or by the bureau.
LIGHTHOUSE ACTIVITY
Members of the Scouting Association Ham Radio Baependi (PY3UEB) will be
activating Santa Marta's Lighthouse (ARLHS - BRA 187/ DFB SC/012) in Santa
Catarina State, now through March 20th. Look for the following: PP5/PY3UEB/LH,
PP5/PY3CQ/LH, PP5/PY3KN/LH, PP5/PY3NZ/LH and PP5/PY3FOX/LH. QSL via the bureau

MOST WANTED OCEANIA SURVEY RESULTS
Mark, ZL3AB, announced his results of his "Oceania Most Wanted Countries List"
that were sent in by operators in the VK/ZL and Oceania areas. Mark seemed
disappointed that just under 40 contributors took part in his survey. Here are

PJ2, NETHERLANDS ANTILLES

LH-0942), during the CQ WW WPX SSB Contest (March 24-25th) as a Multi-Single (or

SPECIAL EVENT
To commemorate the 95th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, ham radio
operators worldwide will participate in a special event broadcast originating
from the TITANIC Museum Attraction (in Branson, Missouri) beginning at 8 a.m.,
Saturday, April 14th, and concluding at 7p.m., Sunday, April 15th. Members of
the Nixa Amateur Radio Club will transmit the news of the anniversary using the
special event callsign W0S. Operators from Nixa, Missouri, have permission from
the FCC to broadcast using this special callsign which stands for "White Star,"
the name of the company that built the Titanic. The worldwide broadcast will
take place to honor the radio broadcasters working aboard the Titanic on the
night she sank. ADDED NOTE: A UK group is also expected to be active. Details
should be forthcoming.
SX5, DODECANESE (EU-001)

ZK3, TOKELAU ISLAND (Op Cancelled!)
Members of the N8S Swains Island DXpedition have cancelled their trip to the
Tokelau Island (ZK3A). The operation to Swains Island (as N8S) will take place
April 4-15th. However, operations from the Independent State of Samoa (5W -
formerly known as Western Samoa from 1914-1997) as 5W5AA (and possibly other
callsigns) will take place between April 17-24th.
ZL8/ZM8, KERMADEC ISLANDS
Remember that Jacky/ZL3CW (F2CW) and Aki/ZL1GO (JA4EKO) are expected to be
active this week as ZM8CW and probably ZL8GO from Raoul Island (OC-039) between
March 22-27th. QSL via ZL1AMO.
