It's not just ARRL Field Day this weekend on the continental United States - it's also Field Day on the South Pole! Robert Reynolds, NØQFQ, a ham down at
Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, said all three US bases on the Pole
will be on the air for Field Day.

Amundsen-Scott, KC4AAA; Palmer Station, KC4AAC, and McMurdo Station,
KC4/W1MRQ, will be operating on 40 meters around 7.235 MHz and on 20
meters around 14.243 MHz throughout the event. McMurdo will also be
operating CW on 7.028 MHz. Since the Pole at this time of year is in
total darkness, Reynolds says 40 meters will be the better band.

Reynolds went on to say that Amundsen-Scott will be on the air
throughout the entire 24 hour event. Palmer and McMurdo, he said, will
be on the air "as much as possible."

Please send QSLs for Amundsen-Scott, Palmer and McMurdo to QSL Manager
Larry Skilton, K1IED, 72 Brook St, South Windsor, CT 06074.

KH3, JOHNSTON ISLAND (Delay and Update)
Skipper of the USSV Dharma, Susan Meckley, W7KFI, informed OPDX that she had to
return to Honolulu (while enroute to Johnston Island) because of a bad
toothache. She stated that it was unbearable, but was glad that she was able to
turn around and go back to Honolulu to visit an oral surgeon. Susan will again
attempt her trip to Johnston Island in less than two weeks. It will take about a
week to travel there. Susan likes to operate and prefer the CW mode (she states
"I can get many more QSOs in"); usually 36 kHz up from the bottom of the band
(14036, 7036, etc.). She will also operate SSB (ex. 14236 kHz), but can
operate most anything upon request. Susan told OPDX that "I have been an
active steady since 1952 and will only answer those stations using ENTIRE
callsign....three letters are illegal. Might be old and old cranky sailor
lady, however at almost 73 (ed. not 70 as first thought), I think I am
allowed. Anyway, I am appalled at the lack of common courtesy on the bands
anymore.....I don't have that many years left, but I will operate in the 1952
mode......Remember....Life is sexually transmitted."
OPDX would like to wish Susan a speedy recovery. Also, once Susan starts
travelling again and becomes active, she would like to hear from you as to where
to go next in the area she is in. She would like to visit rare DX spots over
next 3 years in the South Pacific.

DX CW Contest (November 24-25th). All will be Single-Op/All-Band entries. QSL
all activities via N2MM. Logs will probably be loaded on LoTW upon his return to
USA.

PC650, THE NETHERLANDS (Special Event)
Look for special event station PC650EDAM to be active starting June 19th through
July 1st. Activity will be by several operators to celebrate the town Edam's
650th anniversary. QSL via PD3BL. An award is available; see information on the

Art, KG6ZWD, will be active as SV1/KG6ZWD/P, July 11-15th and 24-25th from Nea

be limited because he is on vacation, but look for him on SSB and PSK31 on 40-10
meters. QSL via his home callsign, either direct, ARRL Bureau or eQSL.

WAS SPOTTING/SCHEDULING WEB PAGE
