Redeem Those Soon-to-Expire International Reply Coupons: If you have old US-issued International Reply Coupons (IRCs), they can still be redeemed, but you need to do it very soon. IRCs issued prior to 2002 (the old small ones) can be redeemed for one penny less than the issue (stamped) price, and must be redeemed by October 10. IRCs with an expiration date of December 31, 2006 can also be redeemed for one penny less than the issue price; these must be submitted to the post office by September 1, 2008. All non-US stamped IRCs issued prior to December 31, 2006 are non-redeemable.

Solar flare activity was very low all week.

Geomagnetic activity observed for the Australian Region was quiet to unsettled on 21st and 24th; and mostly quiet to unsettled on 22nd with isolated minor storm periods on some high latitude locations. Activity was quiet to active on 23rd; quiet on 25th and 26th; and quiet to minor storm on 27th.

Australian Ionospheric F2 critical frequencies were near predicted to 15 per cent enhanced on 21st; near predicted to 20 per cent enhanced on 22nd; near predicted on 23rd, 26th and 27th; and depressed 15 per cent to near predicted on 25th and 26th.

Forecast for 28th September to 4th October

Solar activity is expected to be very low for this forecast period.

Geomagnetic activity should see unsettled to active conditions expected for 28th to 30th September due to coronal hole effects, again on 3rd October; and quiet to unsettled on other days.

Frequencies: should have possible depressions of 20 per cent on 28th to 30th September and 3rd October. Frequencies should be near predicted monthly values on other days. No Short Wave Fadeouts are expected.

The CQWW RTTY Contest runs this weekend Saturday 29 - 0000 UTC to
Sunday 30 - 2400 UTC. Send RST + CQ zone, USA/Canada stations send
RST + state/province + CQ zone, RTTY.

DL - Germany: Several of the DL-DX RTTY contest organizers will be
active as DL0TTY in the CQWW contest and would welcome your calls.

9U - Burundi: The operators for 9U0A are on their way to Burundi.
Operation might start Friday 28 or Saturday 29 Sep.

8R - Guyana: Look for 8R1XR (Holger, DK6XR) and 8R1XT (Martin, DK8XT)
operating CW, SSB and RTTY from Georgetown, Guyana, 30 September to
12 October. QSL to home calls.

EL - Liberia: A team of Dutch amateurs is expected to operate from
Liberia 3 Oct to 24 Oct, all bands, all modes.

ZK2 - Niue: DL2AH, Uli is expected to show up from ZK2 on 40 - 10m,
SSB and RTTY, 29 September to 12 October.

TUNISIA, 3V. Dimitri, RW4WM will be QRV as 3V8SS from October 2 to
8. Activity will be mainly on the low ends of 30, 17 and 12 meters
using mostly CW with some RTTY. QSL this operation via RW4WM.

MALAWI, 7Q. Ely, IN3VZE will be QRV as 7Q7CE from southwest of Lake
Malawi from October 4 to 25. Activity will be on all bands using
SSB and especially RTTY. QSL to home call.

BARBADOS, 8P. Richard, G3RWL is QRV as 8P6DR until October 13.
Activity is on 80 to 10 meters using CW and various digital modes.
He plans to participate in the CQ WW RTTY contest. QSL to home

IRELAND, EI. During the CQIR contest, look for special event
station EI75IRTS to be active from Cork and Dublin.

LIBERIA, EL. Operators PA3A, PA3AN, PA8AD and PA3AWW will be QRV as
5L2MS from October 5 to 24. Activity will be on all HF bands using
CW, SSB and RTTY. QSL via PA3AWW.

TAJIKISTAN, EY. Nodir, EY8MM has been QRV using RTTY on 20 meters
around 1230z. QSL via K1BV.

TEMOTU PROVINCE, H40. Mike, KM9D and Jan, KF4TUG will soon be QRV
as H40MY from Tikopia Island, IOTA OC-178. Their length of stay and
activity are unknown.

anniversary of the opening of the Vatican's Santa Maria di Galeria
broadcasting centre. He is also active as HV6SP. QSL HV50VR via

MONGOLIA, JT. Look for JT1BE, JT1DN, JT1CO, JT1BV, JT1F, and JT1KAA
to be QRV in the CQ WW RTTY contest.

SVALBARD, JW. Karl, LA8DW and Lars, OZ1HPS will be QRV as JW8DW and
JW/OZ1HPS, respectively, from October 1 to 7. Activity will be on

respectively, until October 1. Activity is on 160 to 6 meters.

THIS WEEKEND ON THE RADIO. The ARRL EME Contest, CQ Worldwide RTTY
DX Contest, CQIR - Ireland Calling, Texas QSO Party, FISTS Coast to
Coast CW Contest and UBA ON CW Contest are all scheduled for this
weekend. The ARS Spartan CW Sprint and the YLRL Anniversary CW
Party are scheduled for October 2. The German Telegraphy CW Contest
and the 432 MHz Fall Sprint are scheduled for October 3.
