The Ohio/Penn DX Bulletin No. 833 - excerpts
5T, MAURITANIA
Andreas, DL7ZZ, informs OPDX that a German team is planning a DXpedition to Nouakchott, Mauritania, between March 16-30th (2008). The current team of operators are: Rich/DK8YY, Rene/DL2JRM, Ralf/DL3JJ, Ingolf/ DL4JS, Dan/DL5SE and Andreas/DL7ZZ. All team members are well-known for their DXpeditions and contesting, and they would like to provide 5T as a new one to those who need it. Operating location will be nearby the Atlantic Sea, so there will be enough space for their antenna systems especially for the low bands. The team is expecting their license very soon.
They plan to have 3 stations on the air; 2 with amplifiers. For operations on the low bands 2 verticals (V160 and V80) will be errected, and on 40m they will use 2 phased verticals. For 30-10 meters, they will set up 2 beams, and for the digital station there will be another ground- plane. They will try to have an online log available that will be updated daily via I-net or pactor. A Web page will be updated with all informations about the DXpedition at:
http://www.5t2008.de
QSL via DH7WW, by the bureau or direct. The team is looking for sponsors and donations.
6W, SENEGAL (Update)
Jovica, T98A (ex.9K2/T94FC, ST0RM, ST2A, T94FC), who received his 6W1SJ license, will be active during the CQ World Wide DX CW Contest (November 24-25th) as a Single-Op/Single-Band (40m)/Low- Power entry. QSL via T93Y: Boris Knezovic, P.O. Box 59, BA-71000 Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Bureau and E-mail requests are OK (t93y@lol.ba or boris@t93y.com).
Jovica will stay in Senegal for at least two years with great possibilities to activate other West Africa countries. Outside of the contest, look for him to be active on CW with some SSB and digital modes.
A3, TONGA
Dr. Tomas, VK2CCC, will be active as A35MT between November 20-26th. His main activity will be on the low bands (mostly CW) and the CQ World Wide DX CW Contest (November 24-25th) as Single-Op entry. His primary QTH will be on the Tongatapu Island Group (OC-049). He is planning to take verticals or a combined trap vertical for 160/80/40 meters, a separate dipole for 160m and a pile of wire antennas for the other bands. Tomas states, "A35 licence allows only 100w on 160m, so if you are in Europe, you'll need GOOD receiving antennas to hear anything at all. And a lot of patience." QSL (the best) via eQSL and the LotW, or direct to: Dr. Tomas Magyla, 26 Simon Place, Hornsby Heights NSW-2077, Australia. He also states that he is "very slow" with QLSing (direct cards) as usual. For more (updated) details, visit:
http://www.qrz.com/callsign/a35mt
C5, THE GAMBIA (Update)
Jan, PA4JJ, will once again be active as C56JJ between November 30th and December 11th (not December 7th as first announced). This will be a holiday style operation. Jan informs OPDX that he will only use 100 Watts (FT-897) and the antenna will be a vertical and a ZS6BKW. There may be some topband and 6 meter activity. QSL via PA4JJ.
PLEASE NOTE: Jan states, "... for direct QSLs OUTSIDE EU, I need at least 2 USDs, but if you want to spend some money for the school project
(see http://www,gabiahulp.nl/blz_4a.html )
please send a little more." He also states that there is a possibility of an online log this time on the Web site:
http://c56jj.pa4jj.nl

However, Pete also mentions, "....since this is a national monument and wildlife refuge, a compatibility study has to be done to determine the effect on birds (they'll fly into the antennas)." For the complete story, visit the "DX World of Ham Radio" Web page at:
http://hamspirit.wordpress.com/2007/11/18/kh4-midway-island-summerautumn-2008-possibility/

Between December 1-12th, Mac will move to a small village 150km east of capital of Bamako because of his work. There is no electricity in this area, so there will be fewer noises on the bands.
