IPS Weekly Solar and Geophysical Report for 21st to 27th March, issued on 28th March by the IPS Radio and Space Services.

Solar flare activity was very low on 21st to 24th, 26th and 27th; and moderate on 25th with one M1 flare.

Geomagnetic activity observed for the Australian Region was quiet on 21st, 22nd, 24th and 25th; quiet to unsettled on 23rd; quiet to active with minor storm periods on 26th; and mostly unsettled to active with isolated minor storm periods on 27th.

Southern Australian Ionospheric F2 critical frequencies were mostly near predicted on 21st and 24th; near predicted on 22nd and 23rd; mostly near predicted to 20 per cent enhanced on 25th; near predicted to 20 per cent enhanced on 26th; and depressed 20 per cent to near predicted on 27th.

Forecast for 28th March to 3rd April.

Solar activity should be very low to low.

Geomagnetic activity should be active on 28th, and quiet to unsettled on other days.

Frequencies should see minor to mild depressions possible on 28th, and near predicted monthly values on other days.

IMPORTANT INFO:
JX4A has been noted as a "pirate", so WFWL.
According to LA sources, LA4A is a club station, and has no
authorised trip to JX. The cluster shows the op as LA4XEA.
However, that would mean his call should be JX4XEA!

SY1MA is calling as Mt Athos, but there is no mention of this
in any news bulletins so far. Another WFWL!
This one says QSL via WA1HAA, but that call is not listed on QRZ
or the FCC database. The last time SY1MA was used was in 1972.

It is also worth noting that as one went QRT, the other started!

The Ohio/Penn DX Bulletin No. 851 - excerpts

7P, LESOTHO
The next big operation will take place this week by Belgium operators and
members of the Radio Club Secunda from South Africa. They will be active as
7P8FC from Katse Dam in Lesotho from March 27th to April 3rd. See OPDX.845 for
complete details. Activity will be on 160-10 meters, SSB, RTTY and PSK. The QSL

Bill Moore, NC1L, ARRL DXCC Manager, reports that the following operations are
approved for DXCC credit:
S05A - Western Sahara; 2007 Operation
TX5C - Clipperton Island; 2008 Operation
VP6DX - Ducie Island; 2008 Operation

E7, BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA (News)
The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) announced last year on August
8th (2007), that they replaced the callsign series prefix block of
Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH) from T9 to E7. It was announced this past week that
effective 2300z, March 21st (March 22nd, 1200 AM in Bosnia-Herzegovina), Amateur
Radio operators from BiH will begin using their new E7 callsigns. Boris
Knezovia, T93Y (soon to be E73TW), stated the Communications Regulatory Agency
has issued only two and three letter callsigns suffixes. Applications for one
letter suffixes can be applied for starting April 14th and hopefully will be
issued in late May 2008.

IOTA NEWS

EU-120. Chris, M0DOL, will be active as M0DOL/p and GX4KPT from Lindisfarne
Castle on Holy Island starting April 5th for six days. The CASHOTA reference
number will be given when QSOs take place. QSL via M0DOL.

EU-171. Operators Ela/DL1TM and Tor/DJ4MG will once again be active as
OZ/homecall from Ingstrup (JO47UH), Community of Lokken, Nordjylland Island,
Denmark, between March 24th and April 10th. They plan to have two stations on
the air. One on SSB operating 160/80/40/20/15 meters and the other on PSK31 on
40/20 meters. Antennas will be a spiderbeam, a 160m loop and a DK9SQ loop. They
will also be on 2 meters SSB with only 100 watts and an 11 element yagi at 16m
above the ground level. They also plan to participate in the Nordic Activity
Contest. QSL via their home callsigns, direct or by the bureau. More information

PACIFIC TOUR CONTINUES
Operator Willy/ON5AX and his XYL Magda/ON3AX continue to be active from the
Pacific locations on their three month tour. By the time you read this, they
should be active from their next stop, Lord Howe Island, as VK9ALH until March
30th. Activity will be on CW, SSB and PSK31 using an Alinco DX70 transceiver
with only 100 watts into a groundplane antenna designed and made by Tony,
ON4CEQ. QSL via ON5AX or ON3AX. Next stop is Australia as VK4/ON5AX between
April 2-7th.

SPDX CONTEST (75th Anniversary)
Tony, SP8AJK (SP75N), wants to remind everyone that 2008 SP DX Contest (April
7-8th) is getting very close. This year it is a very special contest edition
celebrating the 75th anniversary of the SP DX Contest (first organized in 1933).
To celebrate the SP DX Contest, the Polish Amateur Radio Union and SP DX Club
are sponsoring a special Jubilee Award: The SP DX Contest - 75th Anniversary
Award. The award is free for all licensed operators and SWLs. Please look at the

VK9A, NORFOLK ISLAND
Masa, VK1ANU, is now active as VK9ANU until April 2nd. Activity will be on 80-10
meters using vertical antennas for the LF, a wire for HF and only 100w. He was
heard this past week on 80/40/30 meters CW. Remember, he will also be an entry
in CQWW WPX SSB Contest (March 29-30th). QSL via JO2SLZ.

XX9, MACAO
Tomas, LY1F (VK2CCC), will be active from here between May 27-29th. Callsign is
to be announced later. Activity will be holiday style on CW on the HF bands. The
QSL route will also be announced later.
