IPS Weekly Solar and Geophysical Report for 16th to 22nd October 2009, issued on 23rd October by IPS Radio and Space Services.

Solar flare activity was very low all week.

Geomagnetic activity observed for the Australian region was quiet 16th to 21st; and quiet to active on 22nd.

Southern Australian ionospheric F2 critical frequencies were near predicted to 30 per cent enhanced on 16th; mostly near predicted on 17th; near predicted to 25 per cent enhanced on 18th and 21st; near predicted to 15 per cent enhanced on 19th and 20th; and enhanced 15 to 20 per cent on 22nd.

Forecast for 23rd to 29th October.

Very low solar activity is expected for the forecast period, with no current significant active regions or returning regions.

Geomagnetic activity should see quiet to unsettled conditions with isolated
active periods for 23rd to 25th due to the sudden geomagnetic impulse from 17th, faint partial full halo CME and recurrent coronal hole activity; otherwise mostly quiet for the forecast period.

Maximum usable frequencies are expected to be near predicted monthly values with possible enhancements for low to mid latitudes on 23rd and 24th. Possible disturbed conditions for high latitudes 24th and 27th due to increased geomagnetic activity. Isolated depressed periods are possible for low latitudes from 26th to 29th.

A6, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
Mohammed, A61BN, is a new ham in Dubai. He seems to be enjoying 20 meters on SSB
between 1100-1330z. There has also been a report that he likes the Digital
modes. He has a stateside QSL Manager who is Buzz, NI5DX. Buzz is expected to
have the logs shortly, and QSL cards should be available in about a month or so.
Mohammed is a good friend of Khalid, A61BK, who has been a great "Elmer" for
him. Buzz is also the QSL Manager for A61BK.

AH2, GUAM
Members of the Guam Contest Club will be active as AH2R during the CQ World Wide
DX SSB Contest (October 24-25th) as a Multi-Single entry. Operators mentioned

CN, MOROCCO
M'hamed, CN8NK, in Rabat, will be active as CN4P during the CQWW DX SSB Contest
(October 24-25th) as a Single-Op entry. QSL via EA5XX.

D6, COMOROS
Sam, F6AML, (F6KOP team member) will be active as D68F from the Union des
Comores (AF-007) between November 13-23rd. Activity will be on 160-10 meters,
including 30/17/12 meters, using CW and SSB. His suggested frequencies are:
CW - 1828(RX/1822), 3520, 7020, 10115, 14020, 18071, 21020, 24891 and 28020 kHz
SSB - 1828(RX/1822), 3775, 7075, 14265, 18140, 21265, 24960 and 28480 kHz
Sam will operate split (up 5 or down 5 kHz) using a FT857D w/amp. He plans to
focus on the topband and lower bands. SUNRISE: 0240z SUNSET: 0215z. QSL via his

amplifier, will be given to the foundation for the future Radio Club of the
Comoros Union.

EI, IRELAND
Olivier, ON4EI, will once again be active as EI/ON4EI from Ireland (EU-115,
WLOTA 2484) near Fethard (IO62DL) on the top of Benneshill (170m ASL) between
October 21-26th. Activity will include the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 24-25th)
as a Single-Op/All-Band/Low-Power/ Non-Assisted entry. It is suggested to look
for him before the contest on 7150 lHz +/- QRM. His equipment is a Elecraft K3
w/100w into a 18m vertical top loaded monopole, inverted V for 160/80/40m and a
Spiderbeam for 20/15/10m.

FO, FRENCH POLYNESIA
Phil, FO8RZ (F5PHW), continues to be active on the bands (include topband). He
has announced that he will be in the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 24-25th) as a
Single-Op/All-Band or Single-Band (15 or 10m) entry. His activity will be

HQ2, HONDURAS
Dan, HR2DMR, will be active as HQ2W during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October

HT2/YN, NICARAGUA
Mike, K9NW, will again be active from Nicaragua between October 22-27th. His
activity will include the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October 24-25th) using the

EU-045. Mauro, IN3SAU, will be active as IB0/IN3SAU from Ponza Island for 10
days starting October 26th. Activity will be on 80-10 meters using SSB, RTTY and

OC-129. Manfred, DL4IAS, will be active as DV7/DL4IAS from Bantayan Island in
the Philippines between October 20th and November 5th. Activity will be on CW,

OC-130. Kouichi, JI1FGX, now living in Ozamiz Occidental on the Island of
Mindanao, is active as JI1FGX/DU9. Activity is on 80/40/ 20/17/15/10/6 meters

Island in the New Georgia Island Group. Length of stay is not known. Mike is

SA-019. Operators Nilzo/PY6AWU, Jose/PY6HD and Roberto/PY6RT will be active as
ZZ6Z from Abrolhos Archipelago between October 29th and November 2nd. The
Brazilian Navy schedule could affect the dates. Activity will be on 80-10 meters

JT, MONGOLIA
Marko, N5ZO, will be active as JT1ZO during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October
24-25th) as a Single-Op/All-Band entry. QSL via OH0XX. Marko informs OPDX that
he will be there between October 21-26th. Activity outside of the contest will
be on the traditional HF bands probably most of the time (most likely very
little if any 160m as there is no amp or antenna present there) using CW and
SSB.

LX, LUXEMBOURG
Philippe, LX2A, will be active as LX7I during the CQWW DX SSB Contest (October

P2, PAPUA NEW GUINEA (Reminder/Update/IOTA Op)
Operators Hans/SM6CVX (CW), Derek/G3KHZ (CW), Luis/CT1AGF (SSB/RTTY),
Gordon/G3USR (SSB) and David/M0VTG are scheduled to activate three (possibly 6)
Papua New Guinea IOTA islands between October 22nd and November 16th.
Activity will be on 160-15 meters using CW, SSB and RTTY modes.

PA30, NETHERLANDS (Special Event)
Members of the "International Police Association Radio Club" of the Netherlands
(IPARC-PA) is celebrating their 30th anniversary by activating the special event
station PA30IPA between now and November 6th. Look for IPA members of the IPARC
to be active on HF, VHF and UHF on all modes, including PSK31 and RTTY.

PB65, NETHERLANDS (Special Event)
Look for special event station PB65BP to be active until November 11th.
Operations will be on all bands and the Digital modes. Activity is to celebrate
the 65th anniversary of the "Liberation of Breda" and the memory of the Poles --
soldiers of the First Polish Armored Division under General Stanislaw Maczek
that released the city on October 29, 1944.

PJ4, NETHERLANDS ANTILLES
Don, W9JNY, will be active as PJ4/W9NJY from Bonaire (SA-006 and WLOTA L1279)
between now and October 30th. Activity will be casual on all HF bands. QSL via
